A printed book is a set of printed pages bound together on one side and protected by a front and back cover. They often contain both words and images. But a book may contain only words or only images. A booklet is a small book or pamphlet. Color can be added to a page either before or after it has been printed. Many children enjoy coloring drawings in books made for that purpose.

Screen process is an economical process which requires a stencil and a fine cloth or wire screen. The stencil carries the design to be printed. It can be made by cutting the design out of paper. This screen process can be used to print on paper, glass, cloth, wood, or almost any other material.

Considerations

  • The ability to read gives status and is desired in many cultures.
  • Reading material promotes reading and opens beneficial opportunities.
  • Printed text is useless to the illiterate unless someone can read it to them.
  • Some people are not willing to receive their information by written words.
  • Even people who have become literate may prefer receiving their information by nonprint means. They process information using an oral style.
  • Long lessons, especially if text only, tend to bore some readers.

See About Print Media for additional considerations.
