One-sentence summary

Devotional stories for children based on true experiences.

Description

These five books offer a series of devotional stories. The titles are:

  • Book 1 How God Used a Thunderstorm
    • Theme: Living for God and the value of Scripture.
  • Book 2 How God Stopped the Pirates
    • Theme: Missionary tales and remarkable conversions.
  • Book 3 How God Used a Snowdrift
    • Theme: Honoring God and dramatic deliverances
  • Book 4 How God Used a Drought and an Umbrella
    • Theme: Faithful witnesses and childhood faith.
  • Book 5 How God Sent a Dog to Save a Family
    • Theme: God's care and childhood faith.

The title for each book is from one of the stories. Each book has a list that shows which are short stories (often one page) and which are longer stories. The reader/story-teller can choose stories that fit the appropriate length of time available. Many stories occurred in the 19th century in different parts of the world.

All stories have gospel and biblical messages. For story-telling cultures, these stories can be used to explain different Bible verses. Each story has at least one Bible verse. Each story has two prayer ideas. Questions and answers are given. The message can be applied to every day life. Some questions are about the story or Bible verses. All Bible references are listed at the back of the book. The books have a total of 798 pages.

Considerations

  • All Bible verses are from the King James Version (KJV).
  • Many of these stories would be most useful for children who live in Eastern European countries.
  • Some countries are listed by name. To use the stories in other countries, the reader/translator could say that "This story took place in a country far away..." It is not necessary to name any country. By using the above suggested quote, it would make every story culturally appropriate in most countries.

Limitations

  • Some of the English language is outdated and may be hard for some readers to speak.
  • The stories might be hard to understand and translate.
  • The frequent use of the term "God-fearing" may be confusing in some cultures.

Guidelines for Use

  • Translate and record on an audio cassette or CD.
  • Use as Christian radio broadcasts.
